The first snarelet of the season

  • I was out the other evening gathering some sage from the herb garden when I spotted the first snarelet of the season out on a family meander.  The snarelet, a baby snare, is normally born in late March, around the time of the Equinox and it is relatively rare to see one so early in the season.  However I believe that the recent snows may mean that the herb supply is somewhat diminished so that they are having to look further afield for some new tender shoots for the youngster.  I did a very quick sketch before I felt that I was intruding too much on the family outing and I left them to their forage for food.
